TREATMENT OF SCABIES WITH BENZOYL BENZOATE OINTMENT 25% FNA

Benzoyl benzoate ointment 25% FNA is suitable for treating scabies in pregnant women and during breastfeeding. It should be applied twice, on two consecutive days. After a week, apply again twice, on two consecutive days. This amounts to a total of four applications: on days 1 and 2, and on days 8 and 9. Approximately 60 grams of ointment is needed to generously cover the entire body of an adult. You should therefore collect a total of 240 grams from the pharmacy. A plastic bottle containing 250 ml of ointment is usually provided.

During the two days (48 hours) that the benzoyl benzoate ointment is on the skin, you should not shower. If you need to wash your hands or other parts of the body, you should reapply them afterward. Once the ointment has been on the skin for 48 hours, you can wash it off with soap and water in the shower or bath. Instructions

for use of benzyl benzoate ointment:
It is advisable to apply benzyl benzoate ointment in the evening so that it can be properly absorbed overnight.
Cut the nails short beforehand (the mites can also be under the nails).
Shake the bottle well before use.
Apply to dry, clean, and cool skin; showering before treatment is permitted, but wait 1 hour before applying the product to allow the skin to cool completely and prevent excessive absorption of benzyl benzoate.
After applying the product, put on clean clothes. All worn clothing should be washed. Also change the sheets, pillowcase, and duvet cover. Turn the mattress over if possible. Wash everything at 60 degrees Celsius (at least 50°C). Dry clean anything that cannot be washed at such high temperatures, or store it in a sealed plastic bag for a week.
Reapply the ointment the following evening, without showering in between. Let it soak in for 24 hours as well. Only then should you wash your entire body with soap and water. The skin should not be washed for two days. If you need to wash your hands or other parts of your body, reapply immediately afterward.
For adults and children aged 12 and over, apply to the entire body from the jawline to the soles of the feet, including the palms of the hands. Do not treat the head and face unless scabies is present. For children aged 12 and vulnerable elderly people, also apply to the scalp, face, eyebrows, and ears.
When applying, pay special attention to the areas between the fingers and toes, wrists, armpits, elbows, backs of the knees, external genitals, buttocks, ankles, eyebrows (apply thoroughly), and under the fingernails and toenails (use a soft toothbrush if necessary). Avoid applying too close to the eyes and mouth.
Reapply after washing hands, using the toilet, or changing diapers, menstrual products, or incontinence products.
Do not use any beauty products (such as make-up) or creams (such as body lotion) while the ointment is working.
When handling babies, and if necessary young children and vulnerable elderly people, wear socks or gloves to prevent skin-to-mouth contact.
If possible, have someone else wearing disposable gloves and long-sleeved clothing apply the cream to your back. It's crucial that no area of skin is missed.
Repeat the treatment after one week (apply the cream to the entire skin on 2 consecutive evenings).
Partners, sexual contacts, family members, and housemates should be treated simultaneously according to the same schedule, or with another scabies treatment such as permethrin cream or ivermectin tablets. They should also be treated again after a week. In group treatment within institutions, it is not necessary to repeat the treatment after a week for people who are asymptomatic.
