WHAT ARE REASONS FOR A NOSE CORRECTION?Surgical treatment to correct the external shape of the nose can be performed to reduce the size of the nose, improve the shape of the nasal tip, remove a hump from the bridge of the nose, and/or straighten a crooked nose. It may also be possible to reduce functional complaints such as congestion or headaches.
The shape of the nose is a personal aspect and should therefore always be assessed individually. It is clear that the patient desires the surgery themselves, not because of environmental factors. The result of rhinoplasty is permanent.
Generally, no external skin incisions are made during rhinoplasty. The incisions are usually located in the internal parts of the nose and are therefore invisible. In some cases, an incision is necessary in the lower border of the nasal septum or at the transition from the nostrils to the lips.HOW IS THE OPERATION PERFORMED?Depending on the extent of the surgery, local or general anesthesia may be administered. A hospital stay of several days may be necessary. Minor corrections can be performed on an outpatient basis or in a day care setting.
Postoperative pain is generally very mild. In most cases, the nose will be packed internally for a few days, requiring the patient to breathe through the mouth during this time. Significant swelling may occur after the surgery on the side of the face adjacent to the nose, such as the eyelids. This swelling lasts for several days. After the surgery, a plaster or plaster cast will usually be applied over the nose, extending to the forehead. This is removed after one to two weeks. The swelling that occurs after the removal of this cast can persist for several months.WHAT RESULT CAN I EXPECT?The success of a rhinoplasty is determined not only by the plastic surgeon but also by the quality of the nasal tissues. The surgery offers improvement, not usually perfection. Often, a rhinoplasty will increase self-confidence and therefore provoke fewer comments from those around you. As with any surgery, there is a risk of bleeding, infection, impaired wound healing, a less than symmetrical shape, or other disappointing results. Even in the hands of the most experienced plastic surgeon, the patient may be disappointed with the outcome. In some cases, a second surgery may be necessary for additional corrections.
If you have any questions, we advise you to write them down and discuss them with us. As long as you are unsure whether you are a candidate for a rhinoplasty, it is wise to refrain from the procedure. The above has been an attempt to inform you about the surgery. However, such a description can never be complete, and no guarantee regarding results can be derived from the above.
Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery is not an exact science. We can never guarantee the results or a smooth course of treatment. Complications can always arise, such as anesthesia problems, thrombosis of the leg, infection, hematoma, tissue necrosis, numb skin, etc. Absolute symmetry cannot be guaranteed with bilateral surgeries. Sometimes, additional surgery is necessary to achieve a good final result. This additional surgery may incur additional costs that must be covered by your insurance or by you.
We will treat you to the best of our ability, and if you have any further questions, please make another appointment at the Plastic Surgery clinic. We are happy to answer all your questions. |
