BOTOX TREATMENT FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING print home print home
You will soon be coming to the hospital for Botox treatment. You are receiving this treatment because you suffer from excessive sweating in your armpits or hands. This brochure provides information about this treatment.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox contains botulinum toxin, which reduces sweat production. The effect of Botox lasts for six to nine months, after which the effect wears off.

Important!
Treatment cannot be performed if you:
• are pregnant;
• have a muscle disease;
• have a neurological disorder.

TREATMENT OF THE ARMPITS

Preparation
• Please inform us if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to iodine or any medications.
• Also inform us if you are taking blood-thinning medications, painkillers, or antibiotics.
• Shave your armpits once two to three days before the treatment. You may not shave your armpits again afterward
.
• Bring an old dark-colored T-shirt with you to the hospital. You can
put it on after the treatment so that your regular clothes don't get stained.

The Treatment
The Botox treatment takes place at the dermatology outpatient clinic. For some patients, we perform a test with iodine and starch. This allows us to determine which areas need to be treated. The dermatologist then injects the Botox into the skin with a needle. You will usually receive ten to fifteen injections per armpit. This may be slightly sensitive. The treatment takes about half an hour in total.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

After the treatment, you will go home.
You may not shower for the first four hours afterward. Otherwise, you may do everything you normally do.
You should not take any blood-thinning painkillers on the day of the treatment. Paracetamol is permitted.
You should also not take any antibiotics on the day of the treatment.
If the results are good, the effect lasts six to nine months.

SIDE EFFECTS

The chance of unpleasant side effects from a Botox treatment is very small. Side effects may include bruising at the injection site or numbness in the treated areas. These side effects are only temporary and not dangerous to your health.
