Acne necroticans varioliformis

In acne necroticans varioliformis multiple pruritic inflammatory papules and papulopustules are present on the scalp, particularly the frontal and forehead areas, which rupture and cause erosions, crusts, and scarring. Cicatricial alopecia may be present. It is a chronic recurrent comdition. The cause is unclear, infectious or inflammatory. Scratching the pruritic papules may also be a contributing factor. It causes cribiform scars and bald patches on the forehead and along the hairline. It occurs primarily in men. Biopsies reveal a lymphocytic inflammatory infiltrate, followed by neutrophils in later stages.
