The society's website includes a search page where you can enter your city. Furthermore, there are seven academic hospitals in the Netherlands with a large dermatology department.
These academic dermatology departments often also have a clinic where patients with serious skin diseases can be admitted.
Since the merger of the AMC and VUmc to form the Amsterdam UMC, the VU Medical Center no longer has its own dermatology department. The dermatology department of VUmc merged with that of the AMC in 2019 and moved to the AMC location (Meibergdreef 9). Another change is that Amsterdam UMC now only sees patients referred by a medical specialist. Patients referred by a general practitioner (basic dermatology care) are seen at the Skin Medical Center . The Skin Medical Center is a partnership between the AMC, VUMC, and Centrum Oosterwal and has four locations in Amsterdam, including one in Amsterdam Southeast, across from the AMC. Dermatologists from the AMC and VUMC also work at this location.
If you wish to be referred to the dermatology department of the AMC, you will need a referral from your treating dermatologist or another medical specialist. If your GP issues the referral, you will automatically be referred to the Skin Medical Center. Most dermatological problems can be resolved at the Skin Medical Center. If highly specialized care is required that is not available at the Skin Medical Center, you will still be referred to the AMC.
