Background
Silver nitrate has many uses in industry, in health care and in the home. Silver nitrate has been applied to the skin for marking patch test sites, cauterizing bleeding, and healing wounds. Silver dyes in the form of a 5% silver nitrate solution are still widely used at home and in beauty shops for dyeing eyebrows and lashes. Metallic silver in jewelry or wire reportedly does not occur.
