Ethylenediamine dihydrochloride home ICD10: L23.9

Ethylenediamine dihydrochloride

Formula CAS
C2H10Cl2N2 333-18-6

Background
Ethylenediamine dihydrochloride is a solvent for casein, albumin, shellac, and sulfur. It is a stabilizer in rubber latex and pharmaceuticals, an inhibitior in antifreeze solutions, and emulsifier.

Synonyms
1,2-Diaminoethane
1,2-Ethanediamine
Chlor-ethamine
Ethylenediamine dihydrochloride
Proxel CRL
(1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one + ethylenediamine)

Uses
Aminophylline: theophylline plus ethylenediamine.
Inhibitor in antifreeze solutions and cooling fluids
Antihistamines: piperazine-based antihistamines, which are closely related to ethylenediamine, are a well-recognized cause of sensitivity. These include meclizine (Bonine, Antivert), buclizine (Bucladin-S); chlorcyclizine (Fedrazil, Mantadil), and cyclizine (Marezine, Migral). Other ethylenediamine-related antihistamines rarely cause sensitivity in ethylenediamine-sensitive individuals. These derivatives include antazoline (Antistine), chlorothen citrate (Tagathen), methapyrilene hydrochloride (Histadyl), pyrilamine maleate (Pyma), and tripelennamine citrate and hydrochloride (Pyribenzamine).
