BackgroundAlantolactone is a sesquiterpene
lactone. It is a component of Helenin, a phytochemical mixture found in many
plant species, including the Inula helenium (elecampane) of the family Asteraceae.
Helenin is a mixture of two isomeric sesquiterpene lactones, alantolactone and
isoalantolactone.
