Background2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone is
a UV-absorbing agent used extensively in commercially available sunscreens.
It is also frequently used as a UV-absorbing agent included in cosmetics. The
benzophenones are a group of 12 diphenylketones used as UV absorbers in industrial
coatings as well as sunscreens. They are also utilized as preservatives since
some members of this group, especially benzophenone 2, have excellent antimicrobial
activity.
