Background2-Hydroxy-4-methoxy-4'-methyl-benzophenone
(Mexenone) is a UV-absorbing agent used in commercially available sunscreens.
Mexenone is a member of the benzophenone class of sunscreens. The benzophenones
are a group of UV-absorbing diphenylketones originally utilized as a coating
for materials in industry to protect from discoloration. Twelve benzophenones
are used in this country and are designated as benzophenones 1 through 12.
